Day57

overcast 17 °C

Day 57 Wednesday 13th June

Interesting night at this park! We were watching a bit of TV and could hear a bit of noise. So went outside there was about 10 guys doing the Haka. We found out later that they were a Basketball side from NZ. But all quieten down by 1000pm.
A very cold night, well we must be so used to the temperatures from up north!!! Overnight low of 4Deg. Expected top of 17 Deg. Were has the heat gone?
Pulled in for morning tea 1000am on the dot, we must be real Grey Nomads now!!!!
The drive south towards Sydney was very busy. The traffic on the road was relentless and the trucks well, lets not get into that. They should be working for Qantas!!!!!
On the way down we saw lots of areas that were flooded but the main road was quite dry. We came around the Pentland Hills road, it was like being on the Monash Freeway at 7.30 in the morning!!!!
Got to the park at 2.30pm nice park looks like they are turning it into some sort of resort, as they have just built a very large resort style pool within the park, so put this one in the memory bank.
Our eldest son Anthony telephoned us gave us directions to his house( this will be fun!!), so off there tonight for a home cooked meal. He is a good cook so should be pretty special!!
Tomorrow we again move south this time heading for Mollymook, to see a retired firey Graham Hepburn.
So once again see you all in the next edition of the Great Trek

Day 34

Day 34 Monday 21st May

Once again woke up to a glorious morning, not a cloud in the sky! Todays temp, 24-34 Deg.
Packed up van and left Broome for Fitzroy Crossing(21-34). Stopped at Willare Where that you ask ? Buggered if I know somewhere between Boome and F/crossing.
Got to the park at 1.30 very hot and humid! Then off to “town” for fuel and supplies. Saw our local Brethren, not much changed in F/C usual garbage and rubbish lying around. The pile of cans has gone!!!!
Back to park for an afternoon swim and cool down, then off to the bar (yes this park has it’s own bar and restaurant) for happy hour. Tonight the cans are only $2 EACH. They were XXXX but for that price even I drank them!!
Back to van for dinner, then over to Rick’s van for another happy hour.. I don’t know if I can keep this pace up!!!!!!!!!!
We ended up the day by watching a nice bedtime DVD Hannibal Rising. Not what you would call a bedtime story
Asleep fairly early in readiness for a big day tomorrow 680KLM’s to Kununurra

day 30

sunny 34 °C

Day 30 Thursday 17 May
When we woke this Morning the sky was still quite cloudy. Hmm!!

We have decided to go to cape Leveque. A long drive on mostly unmade road. This will test the Land Crusher!! Once we leave the highway at Broome, the road in is 201Klms. Our first stop 90 Klms up the road, was Beagle Bay. We looked forward to this stop, as this was going to be Breakfast!! Well lets just say too many “brothers” around. Very dirty and untidy place. Car bodies all over the place. Here we could have got a diesel motor for the Toyota, they were everywhere. As Brenda called them Garden Gnomes because every “house” had a wreck in the front yard. What it did have, was a magnificent little church, All built by a Father Thomas and the local lads!! The altar was all made of Pearl inlay, the photo we took doesn’t give it justice! It cost us $5 for a look (donation)! Mosquitoes were a huge problem, they were all over us.
Onwards toward Cape Leveque.
The road hasn’t improved one bit, deep ruts and very slippery. What made it worse was that they are “fixing” the road and spraying water to cut down the dust, which is what was making it slippery! Some parts of it, the road going through Aborigine land was fully sealed. That made it a bit easier!
Finally we reached Cape Leveque, a place that I have wanted to go to for some time! I must say I was a bit disappointed, as I for some reason thought it would be better than it was! The price of a site for a night here is $60. We had to pay a $10 entry fee per car just to look!
Anyway Took the car down to western beach and had lunch. Had a nice chat to some people that came in via a different road as they had come from Derby. Supposed to be a minor road but by the sound of it , it was in better condition than our entry road?
We didn’t want to stay to late so we headed off by 1.45. The road had dried out a little by then. So made the exit a little better, no shorter but a little better!!!!
On the way back we nearly ran over a snake! So we did a U-turn and went back for a look and pic! Depending who you talk to! It was somewhere between 4 foot and 6 foot. Check out the Photo. Can anyone tell us what variety it is?
Anyhow back at park safe and sound . Just in time for guess what…… your right happy hour!!!!!!

Day 23

Day 23 Thursday 10 MAY

Well another day in paradise! A very warm night 23degrees, top temp today of 34 deg.
Up early and off to MacDonald’s for Breakfast! Actually we went there to use the Hotspot, so I can send off 4 pages I have been hanging onto for 4 days. All got to much for Brenda, she went shopping and left me to it!
Had to do a bit of shopping after though. As we needed a few things. Like a wheel nut that I lost somewhere. Toyota couldn’t help me(something about the Mags being after market!!!). But Bridgestone had one that fitted and the best part, he gave it to me for zilch!!
We had an afternoon of cleaning, van, car. Then off for a swim and back for happy hour and then dinner!
We caught up with the downloaded e-mails, then off to bed for a early night.
If you are interested the fuel prices were:- ULP $1.50, LPG .90. Diesel $ 1.45.
Forgot to tell you as I was backing in I ripped off the mud flap on the van. So spent 45 minutes fixing that.So I thought I earned an extra beer that night!!!!

Day22

Day 22 Wednesday 9th May
We couldn’t get away to early today as the snorkel gear shop was closed and we couldn’t drop it off until 0830.
Off at last, we stopped for cooked breakfast when we reached the North Wets highway 170 klm’s away. Great breakfast bacon, eggs, Mushrooms and toast and coffee. Got to feed the driver it’s hard work all that concentrating!!!
We stopped at a Roadhouse called NAUTARRA for some fuel. Got a shock! It’s nearly time to mortgage the house for a tank of ULP. $1.72 per litre, LPG $1.00 per litre, Diesel $ 1.68 per litre. Remind me not to complain about Melbourne’s prices!!
As we drove along saw Rick and Co by a river so we pulled in for lunch. Because of the price of fuel, we could only have Cheese on toast but hey it did have a sauce smiley face on it!!!!
Rick and Tracey are headed for a different C/park to us this time as they can’t get their rig into the one we have booked. So they are about 5 minutes away.
Got here at 3.45 very warm and a bit humid. Brenda had the radar out again so off to the shops( gee this is fun!!!!) saw Rick there, he said in his words “his park is shit “. So therefore only staying one night, he’s heading off to Eighty Mile Beach. We have been there before it’s a great location right on the beach. Good swimming and fishing.
Well Brenda and I had to have happy hour on our own tonight not as much fun but boy did the beer go down well!!
